Honoring the Heroes Who Serve Beside Us
Throughout our country and around the world, service animals stand beside us in moments of danger, hardship, healing, and hope. They search through disasters, detect threats, protect communities, support independence, and provide life-changing medical and emotional assistance.
Whether serving in law enforcement, the military, search and rescue, or as assistance and medical support animals, these extraordinary partners serve with unwavering loyalty and courage.
The Purple Poppy is a powerful symbol of remembrance honoring the sacrifice, bravery, and enduring bond shared between service animals and their human partners.
The Purple Poppy Awards celebrates these remarkable stories by recognizing extraordinary service animals, their handlers, and the individuals and organizations who champion their work.
Hosted at the prestigious National Law Enforcement Museum in Washington, DC, the evening will bring together national leaders, veterans, first responders, nonprofit advocates, philanthropists, and supporters for an unforgettable night of reflection, gratitude, and recognition.

About the National Service Animals Monument (NSAM)
The National Service Animals Monument (NSAM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization leading the effort to build the first federally authorized national monument honoring service animals and their handlers.
In 2023, bipartisan legislation signed by President Biden authorized NSAM to construct the monument on federal land in Washington, DC.
The monument will honor the life-saving and life-changing work performed by service animals throughout American history — including military working dogs, law enforcement K-9s, guide and assistance animals, search and rescue teams, therapy animals, and many others who have served alongside humans in times of conflict, crisis, and recovery.
Led by renowned sculptor and founder Susan Bahary, NSAM seeks to create a permanent national tribute that inspires future generations to recognize the enduring human-animal bond.
